Get in, loser, MEAN GIRLS is here. Broadway’s hilarious hit musical from an award-winning creative team including writer Tina Fey (“30 Rock”), composer Jeff Richmond (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and director and choreographer Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon), is now playing at London’s Savoy Theatre.

Meet The Plastics – Regina, Gretchen and Karen. They rule North Shore High and will burn anyone who gets in their way. Home-schooled Cady Heron may think she knows a thing or two about survival of the fittest thanks to her zoologist parents, but high school is a whole new level of savage. When Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung.

Expect iconic characters, razor-sharp wit, and killer songs. Grab your friends and your cool mom, this is fetch – and YES London, we’re making it happen!

All the fetch songs featured in Mean Girls

You’re not a regular mum, you’re a cool mum… or dad, or partner. Whoever you are, you’re cool. That’s why you want to know more about the stage adaptation of Tina Fey’s classic comedy, Mean Girls

Join Cady as she gets to grips with her new life in America and has to navigate high school and the mean girls who run it. With a brand new score by Jeff Richmond and Nell Benjamin, it’s totally fetch. But what are these new Mean Girls songs? Before you go (Glen Coco) to see Mean Girls, find out more about the score below.

All the Mean Girls songs in order

Mean Girls Act One songs

A Cautionary Tale

Our pair of misfits and Cady’s true friends, Janis and Damian, use their dark comedy to open the show and set the scene. As the title suggests, A Cautionary Tale foreshadows the show's events.

It Roars

When we meet Cady, she tells us about her life in Africa and what she’s been missing out on. As the song progresses, we learn that Cady and her family will return to America.  But when she arrives at the quintessential high school, she learns it’s not easy being the new kid. It’s the first of the Mean Girls songs that has a reprise. Unusually, it’s immediately after its first appearance. On the cast recording, they’re rolled into one song.

Where Do You Belong?

As Damian and Janis take the rejected Cady under their wings, they guide her through the school’s social hierarchy. As she learns more about the different cliques, Damian encourages her to find where she belongs. It’s a glitzy number that’s reminiscent of shows like The Producers.

Meet The Plastics

Though Cady has learned about the school groups, she’s yet to meet the popular girls, the eponymous Mean Girls. In an ominous rock number, we meet Regina. The song folds into an up-tempo tune to introduce Gretchen. Lastly, we hear a simple, child-like verse from Karen.

Like many other Mean Girls songs, you can hear influences from other musicals, including Next To Normal, the complex arrangements of Sondheim, and the big show tunes of Kander and Ebb

Stupid With Love

After Cady meets the heartthrob Aaron, she tells us about her disastrous dating history. She compares her academic intellect to her romantic stupidity.

Apex Predator

Cady is adopted by The Plastics. Janis warns her about the leader, Regina, but despite the red flags, Cady is overwhelmed with the dopamine hit popularity brings and ignores the warnings.

What’s Wrong With Me?

As Cady integrates into The Plastics, they begin to confide in her. Vulnerable and lacking confidence, Gretchen confesses she thinks Regina is a bad friend.

Stupid With Love (Reprise)

As the show progresses, we discover how influential Regina is in the school. Her negative impact even spreads to Cady’s crush, Aaron. As she tries to get closer to him, Cady pretends to be bad at maths so he’ll tutor her. But while they get to know each other, he reveals that he’s sworn off love due to his past experiences with the queen Mean Girl.

Sexy

When Cady is invited to a Halloween party, Karen explains the rules of Halloween. It's Karen’s only solo number and one of the funniest of the Mean Girl Musical songs.

Someone Gets Hurt

After Regina discovers Cady has feelings for Aaron, she manipulates him to spite the newest member of The Plastics. The power ballad has a Bond theme feel, plus main character energy.

Revenge Party

Regina’s betrayal makes Cady realise Janis and Damian are right about the Plastics. After the trio reunites, they come up with a revenge plan to get back at the meanest girl in school and destroy The Plastics from the inside.

Fearless

Regina is ostracised from the group due to Cady, Janice and Damian's plans. Without a tyrannical leader, Gretchen gains confidence and imagines what her life will be like now she doesn’t have to answer to anyone.

Someone Gets Hurt (Reprise)

Cady tries to apologise to Regina, but she rejects the olive branch. Closing out Act One, this reprise is one of the more ominous of the Mean Girls songs.

Meet the Mean Girls characters

The hit new musical, Mean Girls painted the West End pink when it made its Broadway transfer to the Savoy in 2024. Based on the iconic 2000s film, that captured the essence of high school drama with humour and wit. The story revolves around Cady Heron, a teenager who transitions from being home-schooled in Africa to navigating the complexities of high school. As Cady embarks on her journey from one kind of safari to another, she encounters a variety of characters and cliques, Complete with a catchy soundtrack, fetch costumes and the beloved characters we know and hate. Meet the characters below.

Who are the Mean Girls Characters?

The show brings to life the iconic characters from the film including the infamous Plastics, along with the iconic duo, Janis and Damian, who help Cady navigate the treacherous waters of high school hierarchy. The show captures the most memorable moments of the film and offers audiences a nostalgic yet fresh perspective on these beloved characters.

The Plastics

Regina George

Regina George, the quintessential Queen Bee, reigns at the top of the hierarchy at North Shore High School. She’s cunning and manipulative and uses her smart wit throughout the show to get what she wants. Her influence in the school, means classmates both fear and admire her and constantly look to seek her approval. As Cady starts disrupting the politics of the high school hierarchy, Regina's power is put to the test.

Gretchen Wieners

Gretchen Wieners is known for her gossip-prone and superficial tendencies. As a member of the Plastics, Gretchen navigates a challenging relationship with Regina George, the group's queen bee. Despite Regina's mistreatment, Gretchen remains fiercely loyal. She often feels overshadowed by Regina, leading to her jealousy and constant need for approval.

Karen Smith

Karen stands out as the most endearing member of the Plastics. Her naivety and innocence often lead to comedic moments, such as her iconic line, "I'm a mouse, duh." Despite not being the sharpest, Karen’s genuine kindness and good heart help her distinguish the difference between right and wrong, even if she is occasionally influenced by the other Plastics.

The Fish out of Water

Cady Heron

Cady Heron, the naive new girl at North Shore High School, must navigate High School Life for the first time. She is initially taken under the wing of her fellow classmates Janis and Damien, embarking on a mission to infiltrate the Plastics. However, she quickly gets entangled in the chaos of high school life, losing sight of her true self. Cady must learn the hard lesson of staying true to your values, and the importance of genuine friendships.

Review Roundup: What are the critics saying about Mean Girls the Musical?

On Wednesdays, Mean Girls the Musical officially opens. Last night, 20 years after the original film was released, six years after the Broadway production first opened, and a few months after the musical film release, London finally got to sit with the Mean Girls. But did the critics think that the musical was totally fetch, or will it be getting a dedicated page in their burn book?

Savoy Theatre Best Seats

The Savoy Theatre, opened in 1881, and famously was the first public building in the world to be lit by electricity and since then the biggest theatrical stars have lit up the stage with their own electricity, from Nicole Scherzinger in Sunset Boulevard to Sarah Jessica Parker in Plaza Suite. The theatre itself is nestled in the luxurious Savoy Hotel and guests can swim in the hotel swimming pool directly above the stage.  If you have the chance to make a splash and see any of the incredible shows at the Savoy Theatre, then read on to find out where the best place to sit is for you.

What are the best seats at the Savoy Theatre?

The Savoy Theatre has three seating blocks: the Stalls, the Dress Circle and the Grand Circle.

The Stalls are a great option for those who want to feel like they are part of the action, but the best views of the stage are in the centre of the Stalls, specifically from rows H to P. However, the back of the Stalls may be obstructed by the overhang of higher tiers.

The Dress Circle is a great place to sit as it offers a panoramic view of the stage. The front rows provide an excellent view, as well as extra legroom. However, the top of the stage may be obstructed in this section.

The Grand Circle is a budget-friendly option that offers a clear view of the stage. However, audiences may find that it is further away from the stage than the other sections. Additionally, there is a safety rail in front of rows F and G, which may slightly restrict the view.

Home-schooled in South Africa by her scientist parents, Cady is plunged into the suburban jungle of Illinois. However, Cady soon realises how her shallow group of new friends earned this nickname…and the ruthless extent they'll go to in order to keep it,

Mean Girls will not return to the Broadway stage after coronavirus

Based on the modern classic film that starred Lindsay Lohan in her prime, Tina Fey's Mean Girls musical will not continue its Broadway run after theatres are permitted to re-open. The hit show saw Gretchen Wieners portrayed by Ashley Park, who was nominated for both a Tony and Drama Desk Award and garnered attention recently for her role as Chinese-Korean nanny Mindy Chen on Netflix's Emily in Paris. Mean Girls is expected to transfer to London's West End, though likely due to COVID-19, no venue or potential opening dates have been confirmed as of yet.
